There are a limited number of intern positions available for a project in Suriname, South America. We are looking for experienced timber framers who are able to commit between two weeks to four weeks volunteering to help in the construction of an open air pavilion for Conservation International. The structure is being built in three phases, culminating in a rainforest, hand raising in November. Openings are currently available in June, August, September, and October.

Currently, we are working in Paramaribo, the capital city of Suriname and will be here until sometime in September. After that we will move into the rainforest at Raleigh Vallen, Central Suriname Nature Reserve. While in Paramaribo, we are working with dimensionally sawn and hewn pieces, using snap line square rule layout. Once in the Park, we will begin working with a mix of round and sawn pieces, using both SNSR and scribe. The work in all phases is both challenging and exciting. New wood, techniques, and cultures combine to create a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Because of the limited numbers of openings, we are able only to consider timber framers with experience and a basic hand tool kit. While the positions are volunteer, all expenses will be paid, including transportation, immunizations, food and lodging, and a visit to Raleigh Vallen in the interior rain forest. Further information and pictures can be found at www.temreman.blogspot.com or in recent issues of Scantlings. Inquires and applications including work history and references should be submitted to Bob Smith at bob@beardancejoinery.com.
