Just purchased an old makita 16" saw, and am looking for the sturdy aluminum base that Great Northern made for awhile. Anyone out there no longer have use for their base, that is to say who has a dead saw?

I saw an old saw recently with a piece of 3/8 aluminum drilled and tapped to the existing base with a half dozen or so machine screws, cut slightly larger than the original footprint of the saw. I didn't try it, but it looked solid to me.

Isaac, I was looking for one last fall as well and called Phil Bjork at Great Northern and he sent me one of his to take the measurements off of. I work with a bunch of machinists so there was no cost for labor on the one I had made. I'm not sure what the costs would be if you had a machine shop make one for you.
If you are interested in the measurements (I could send you some pictures) email me at timberworks@gmail.com
I would sure appreciated some pictures of an after market base if you don't mind forwarding them. I have newer Makita and have contemplated designing a new base for a while.
