It is some type of specialty plier stamp 8332 AMMCO Tools, Chicago,Ill. It was in an automotive shop. Like to know what its proper name is, what job did it perform, are they still being made.

It's a piston ring expander used when building or rebuilding engines. Put the ring to be installed on the onto the expander with the ring ends against the 2 bent ends of the expander. Squeeze the handles together and the ring expands. Slip it over the piston, in place by it's groove, and remove the expander. They are definitely still made and in used everyplace, every day, around the world.

Thank you kindly.That is what its called. Only comment I have, is that it seems that squeezing the handles makes the expander get smaller. I didn't have a ring handy to try it out. ff
