Aloha, I have been tossing an idea around in my head. I need some help in design, layout and cutting a frame here on Big Island Hawaii. I have attended the Heartwood School Intro to TF (3 YRS ago) and am currently working as a Finish Carpenter in a high-end resort community. Most of my life I was a car mechanic in Detroit.
I have several large trees ready to be given new life in our home. Tree species include Ohia Lehua, Silver Oak-Grevillia Robusta-, Mango, Cypress, Ironwood, Norfolk Pine and several Eucalyptus species (Grandis, Robusta, Deglupta, Citradora, Pinicultata). I would like to scribe some of these large Ohias as posts and build a 38' x 24' home on our 5 acres.
Are there any TF's who have a hankering for a visit to Hawaii? And maybe do some TF work while here. I am exploring this idea of a workshare, live here, use of car, some trips to secret amazing places ie: Volcano, Whale watching, Palm trees & drinking, Surfing, Swimming, drinking, Massage, music making...14,000' mountain w/snow capped peaks...working with Bamboo (Guadua).... ideas thoughts?? This is my first exploration of this, but it just seems like I needed to put it out there. If there is great interest, maybe it can become a TFG Workshop? Thanks, Bobby G

What's the weather like in January? It sounds like it would be tough to get a lot of work done. The more helpers the more work completed in a shorter time. How about a plane ticket? Tim

Sounds like a fun winter. I have a neighbor who goes to Hawaii every winter so he can keep building stone walls.

It's Winter. Lows of 52 at night, Highs of 72 daytime.... Mild rains 2 days a week, it is called Golden Sunshine cause its raining and the sun is shining. We are at 1700' elevation, so it gets kinda cold up here...

Amazing, but the seasons here are similar to timing from Midwest. Just not temps...

The Whales are here in Winter. Bobby

Aloha Tim, a plane ticket is not out of the question. I will give my lil post a bit of time and see what pops up.

Is there a real interest on your part?

Are you anywhere near Rangely?

Thanks, Bobby

My wife plays rock-n-roll on her Ukulele all the time...she did a GnR cover (Sweet Child O' Mine) last week at open mic night, it was a big hit. Tiny Bubbles...hmmm, go for it!

Of course you can use Bamboo. Guadua outperforms many woods in some uses. The liunk/home was really nice. Did you design it?
Regarding Bamboo, Look up the ZERI Pavillion by Simon Velez and then look up Marcelo Villegas Bamboo.

Derek, where is the bamboo used in that striking building? Is it just a plan or something you have worked? Gluelambamboo? Tim
