I am looking for timber suppliers in Northern California or Southern Oregon. I am in Eureka and have met a few local sawyers with Lucas mills, circular saws, and the like but most are working with reclaimed redwood and in sizes smaller than what we need for cutting a frame.

Many times these small sawyers have taken their wood from residential lots and as a result getting a FOHC timber or longer lengths from Douglas Fir is not happening.

Any suggestions? Is there a Cowls Lumber out here?

One way to find a timber supplier in your area is to go to the TFBC (Timber Framers Business Council) site and see who listed there. There is a resource guide, in pdf format that you can download and then search.

Good luck with your project...

If you need a link, I'm sure there is one on the guild site under links....

Good tip Jim,

"Timber Products" is at the end of the list. It shows several timber suppliers in Oregon but none in California.

I imagine there are some small time/local sawyers around here I haven't found yet but I guess I could go to Oregon if I have to.

There are other ways to find sawyers in your area.

One way is to go to woodmizer.com and get their phone number. Call them during regular business hours and select the "find a sawyer" option. You should get a live person, who will ask you your zip code and then tell you all sawyers listed with them in your area.

Next go to the forestry forum site www.forestryforum.com and use their "find a sawyer" option and see who is listed with them.

Another way is to use woodfinder.com and see who is listed with them.

Also, try woodplanet.com and request a quote....

Some of these methods should help you find someone in your area.

Also, you could try contacting your county forester and see who he knows in your area.

Good luck.
