I am new to sketchup and trying to use the tf rubies. The tf rubies menu is under the plug in menu. When i right click tf create joint is there but only in grey. It is not active. This topic may have been covered before but i could not find it on the forum.

Any help would be appreciated

You must create a 'timber' that is a component (think of this as a shoe box or container)

Within this timber component (shoe box) will reside other 'joint' components.

The only way to assign 'TF Create Joint' is to right click on a joint component (your tenon, housing, etc.) that is within the shoe box component.

That is what I tried. I made a tenon like on the tutorial and still no luck. Maybe I am still not doing something right.

I am not sure what i wasn't doing wrong but i got it to work now. Thanks for the help bmike

The joint component must be residing inside/under the timber component. Have a look in the Outliner-window, there you se a hierarchical tree, and the joint component must be in the level underneath the timber component, for you to be able to assign it as a Joint.
Actually, the joint will work perfectly even though it is not connected to the timber it belongs to, as long as it´s cut plane sits snugly to the rieceving timber's face.
