We've been slaving away to get our logs ready for our June Blockbau workshop.

Ideally, we'd let the logs season for a while before putting the structure together, but we are a bit rushed for that.

Here is what we've got so far,

That's just about half of our good 12 footers. Each of these will be sawn in half to yield 4 inch wide timbers.

We've been toiling away at our logs, and tomorrow we dig out our footer. Then the construction phase will begin. At that point, I will be doing more building while my two brothers continue hewing the logs.

Sometimes you run into a snag. Today one of my axe handles wore out, and I had to make a new one. Went out into the woods and split a blank out of some hickory that is good and dry by now, and carved out a new handle using only an axe.

And on a side note, today we got our vat that we will make our cheese in!

Our shell is finally going up. You can begin to see the process at this point...

Hi Mr. Bahler;

Three questions. Why is the wooden wall not flush with the outside of the foundation wall? Is that a groove I see on the bottom side of the wall timbers...for a gasket of some kind?

Looks good;

Jim

Hi Dave,
I know what you mean. Haven't used them in four years now.
Congratulations and hope to see up dates as the work progresses.

Greetings,

Don Wagstaff
