Recently found a Finnish movie about building a log house in the traditional way. I added the English subtitles and posted it here:

Subtitles available under the CC or captions button.

Hope you all will like it.

Very nice video.

The floor system fascinated me, no doubt a very good solution for the very cold conditions they might encounter in Finland.

It is also interesting to see the different ways people came up with to solve the same problems, and to build with same materials. For example, the log style I see is remarkably similarly to what I know from Bern, yet executed much differently -such as the surface being finished AFTER construction, whereas we would surface and finish all of our timbers before.

Also again to the floor, functionally they are identical to ours, the use of pegs to tie the boards together is much like how we would use a free spline to do the same. And the wedges to secure the boards is the same concept as we use, only in Bern the floor boards themselves serve as the wedge, by tapering the edge boards and center board.

Was de eine ilüchtet isch für angeri villech nid so klar.
