Two mortisers for sale, a Mafell LS 103 220v and a Makita 7305 H chisel mortiser.
The Mafell comes with mortising stand, freehand fence and 2 in. bar and chain with spare chain, current price new just over $5000. This particular mortiser was purchased new by me in 2001 and used on about 15 frames of small to average size. I mostly work alone and sometimes with two other carpenters. The mortiser has been well maintained and I expect a long productive life for the machine. Price $2800 with free shipping to the 48.
The Makita is a great machine for use in softwoods and low specific gravity hardwoods, a true joy to use. Bores in to 155 mm or 6 1/8 in. Expect prefect flat bottom mortises with scant clean up. The clamping mechanics are robust and the x-y movement is precise. The chisel rotates so sloping cuts such as found in Japanese joinery can be readily taken on, if desired complex joinery yields to precise mechanics. Included are two 30 mm chisels, one 24 mm chisel and a grinding burr that mounts atop the motor housing. Price $1700.
