Hello there,
I"m looking at picking up a new electric chainsaw, and I'm wondering if any of you have found a decent saw to work timbers with.

I had a makita 120 volt initially, then went through two husqvavnra 120 volt saws.
I'd be curious if there's a 220 saw available in north america or not.
thanks,
-Mark.

Hi Mark,

The Makita is made by Husqvarna (still is I think) and these are probably (in there price range) the best saws. If not using heavy enough extension cords (minimum 10 ga) and no more than 50 feet of cord (25 much safer) the draw on these engines in constant use will burn them up quick I have found. Also not keeping them well lubricated (I use peanut oil or canola.)

As for "professional quality" yet still easy to find and get parts for...Stihl...is my third choice.

Hope that helps,

j

here is an image of the stihl saw, beside my husky gas saw:

I'm quite surprised by how much power this electric saw has, it actually comes close to the gas saw.
It does not handle quite as well as my old husky electric, but I'm getting used to it fast as it cuts so well. I do recommend it!
here's another image of my gas and electric huskys and the new stihl:

My Husky saw also died. Has anyone had any luck having an electric repair shop fix it up?

I'm on a Makita now.

I love my Makita (allegedly made by Husky or it may be the other way around??)

It has gone to the shop twice in 15 years...I still love it and it is going strong.
