Here is a video showing the assembly of an example of a timber frame built using midland Bernese methods. Specifically this sort of framing is found in the region around the city of Thun, along the north shore of Lake Thun, and to the west of the city along the northern edge of the Alps (it's difficult to pin these things down, because there is such tremendous variation in Bern)

This is a platform framing method, derived from log building with the introduction of timber framing technologies during the Middle Ages.

I thought you all might enjoy seeing a detailed look at how these frames go together, so I created this video. I made this model complete with joinery (aside from a few missing mortises in some of the upper level timbers) and put this video together.

For the most part, this lacks the architectural styling of the region. The overall design of this structure is an attempt to merge American tastes with the Swiss methods.

Personally this is my absolute favorite framing method.
