I’m currently designing a 1 ½ story home that will be closed in without the use of a crane. I’m planning to use SIPs for the walls and studs and insulation for the roof and triangular portion of the wall that is formed by the roof: My questions are these:
1. I’ve not worked with SIPs before: can two people realistically close in the walls (the plates are 16’ off the ground and I’m using 6 3/8” SIPs) without the aid of a crane, forklift, etc.
2. Has anyone used this “hybrid” approach or used SIPs without a crane? Any thoughts?
3. Lastly, a general SIP question: I’m thinking of assembling the SIPs on site with purchased insulation and OSB. I’m an owner-builder so I’m more concerned about material cost than labor cost. Is this option worth pursuing?

Thanks, Mischa
