Has anyone used applewood for braces? I have an apple tree that needs to come down and was thinking of using it for knee braces.

HI Troy

Is the applewood wild or tame in its growth habits?.

The wild wood will be much stronger in nature than the tamer variety. Wild applewood when dry will make superior mallet heads, and we used them for commanders in the 1846 Mulley Saw mill to tap the large heavy cast Iron Dogs that held the logs in position.

I have never known of fruit wood to be used for this particular job, but it is possible.

its wild applewood, the fruits are considered crabapples...the tree in question is about 10" in diameter and i thought either to make lumber out of it for furniture or save a log for braces..i havent checked it out in the wood species book, but i will take up your suggestion to research it(thank you for the idea)..
