Does anyone have the weight of green Eastern White Pine - either in lbs/bdft. or lbs/cu.ft. I have searched this board/and all my references but cannot find the no.
Thanks and have a great holiday season.

According to these web pages randomly Googled the weight of Eastern White Pine is: 2 lbs/bdft 26 lb/ft³ Weight may vary according to moisture content. I'm going to keep searching, this seems on the light side for green wood.

Our log weight calculator uses 36lb/cu.ft. for green EWP. I think Joe's numbers are for 20% MC.

Yes, I just double checked my "Log Span Tables", and the figure I posted is the value for dry wood. That seemed a bit light; someone told me years ago the weight of fresh cut pine was about 40 lb/ft³. I found another website (nothing to do with wood design values, they sell trees) that gives the weight as 36 lb/ft³. Does anyone know of a web page or table on the Internet that lists the density of various species of wood at different moisture contents? I'm surprised at how difficult it is to find this information.

I know there are drying tables kiln operators use that should allow you to extrapolate the various values otherwise all I've seen is the occasional wet vs. dry comparison for a particular species. You might ask on the drying and processing board at the forestry forum. http://www.forestryforum.com/

Try the woodweb. I know they have a calculator to determine log weights

It's all in the Wood Handbook (USFS). Download for free on the bottom of the Home page of this site. (see "specific gravity" in the index. This is an awesome resource!!

I am looking in a text book written in 1898 and they give the weight per cu inch of White pine as .0144 per cu inch, and the specific gravity as .400 They go further to say that to find the weight of a cubic foot of any solid or liquid, multiply its specific gravity by 62.425
Calculations work out to 24.97, or pretty close to 25 lbs cu ft.
