mo,

I like the direct glazing details in Rupert Newman's book http://www.amazon.com/Oak-Framed-Buildings-Rupert-Newman/dp/1861083793

If you don't have it, get it. You'll love it. Lots of good pictures of English style oak framing and a pretty darn good chapter on scribing.

I don't have it in front of me but the way he presents (with good illustrations)is pretty much the standard approach in the UK where direct glazing of timber frames is fairly common.

Gabel,

Thanks bunch. Nope don't have it, but just ordered it for a real reasonable price from your link.

Still interested to hear how Randy's project went if he happens to stop by again. Its been a few years too.

He's in Antarctica at the moment. I heard him do a presentation at the Western Conference a couple of years ago. Very interesting. I'd love to know how the house is aging.

hi mo, great book, the scribing chapter is very informative
For more direct glazing info another book to check out is Ted Benson's Timberframe Home:
http://www.amazon.ca/Timber-Frame-Home-Tedd-Benson/dp/1561581291
some very detailed drawings in that one as well wink

Below is a detail of direct glazing we'll be doing on our cruck prow in the spring. Reclaimed dougfir glass frames, glazed with Ecoglass' quad HeatMirror IGU's with solar heat gain. To take advantage of all of the glass and it's glazing, we'll have two thermal mass walls in the living room collecting all the natural goodness...the view will just be a by-product..lol
