confused

Would be great if the new plan book the guild is offering had a bit more detail of the plans contained in the book. Maybe a small snapshot of each structure? or sketch? Would like to see what is in side before purchasing smile

I got my plan book yesterday, from Will Beemer.
The copyright says you can't post images without permission of the author. Will Beemer gave me permission to post views of the renderings of his drawings, that he summited and here they are:

The above two images are of a workshop frame that the students at Will Beemer's Heartwood school cut.

Yesterday while I was at Heartwood school I saw them working on this frame:

This frame is used as a woodshed.

One of the first things that struck me was the color of the frames. It is my opinion that the wood texture in these renderings are too dark.
I was assured that this would be correct when the guild does another printing of this plan book, hopefully it will be done.

Another thing I noticed was that I had to search a little bit to find the dimension of the frames listed.

Each frame comes with a description that tells of the projects history, that is where the frame was built before.
Each frame come with a list of the design values used to design the frame which includes the type of wood, dead load, live load and snow load. As well as the timber list.

That's it for now...

When I draw a frame and do a rendering I have several choices of wood texture for the drawing.
Here is an example of two:

I like the look of the spruce/pine/fir and the oak isn't as dark.

My program has to the option to have black lines at the edges of the surfaces of the timbers or not. I usually like to have the edges show up as black lines as it is easier to see and identify where the housing are.

The above frame is 9'x 12' outside of posts for a woodshed. The customer was going to put slate on the roof, that's why the rafters are so heavy...

I really like that woodshed and have been contemplating building something like that. I will order the book this week.

Thx for the pics.

Hi All:

Forgive my comment but it seems to me that these small woodsheds appear to be over built somewhat, I would be quite interested in knowning where these buildings were cut originally and if they are one of a few examples of times gone by or are they representative of a building style that is disappearing in an area.
