I am a recent member of TFEC and am currently working on a Masters in Structural eng from the University of idaho, currently taking a structural dynamics course. One of the course requirements is to do a "project" (research paper or specific structural dynamics prob) that is of interest. Since my interest (and motivation) is in timber frame structures, I was wondering if anyone out there in TFEC knows of any past or present work that has been done involving dynamic analysis of a timberframe structure. Any and all leads would be helpful.
Thanks for your help,
Rick Hissem

I'm no engineer, but I want to say it's great to see more and more engineers excited about timber framing.

Good Luck!

Hi Rick,

There are a number of situations where timber framed structures are subject to dynamic loads including free standing Post [wind] mills, church bell towers with swinging bells, water mills, trebuche (rock throwing war machines), Hoists and cranes, aeroplanes (1st WW fighters & 2nd WW bombers).

Looking back to see the way ahead !
