With Phil Bjork's blessing, Lon Tyler and I have taken on the production of his after market base for the older style Makita 16 1/4" circular saw. We have also adapted Phil's same base design to fit the newer style 'blue' 16" saw and smaller Makita 'brown' 10 1/4" saw. Call or email for pictures and information. Finally! Thanks for taking this on, guys. I'd like a second 16 around the shop, but haven't done it as there was no base for it. I've been worried about "old gold" giving up the ghost for a long time now - it's got 7 years of hard work on it. Do send me whatever info you have. CB.

Now I know where to go! Time to bail on that crappy black base! Thanks for the info.

Hey D, Thanks for the good news. Have you got a sketch, a drawing, pictures? I have a 25 yr old 16.25" Makita circ saw. I like it, 'cept for the bent base - it makes for a wobbly ride. Do you attach your new aircraft Alum plate to bottom of orig steel base, or replace the orig?
What type of router bit do you use to cut slot for blade and guard in new alum? Any other steps, tips etc would be helpful. Fasteners? plus adhesive? specs for alum? ASTM? sources? Thanks in advance.
Steve

I speak on behalf of myself and my company in Western North Carolina that we ordered the base for the "new blue 16" and it has brought indescribable improvement to it's performance. I really love to use it now! Thanks for your good work! Yep, this is a plug for it to y'all out there...
