Come with me as I visit the woodlot to examine and obtain the correct naturally curved wood for this project.

I have just updated the material on this new version to include the full process that will need to be understood and followed in order that you will be able to handle your axe both safely and skillfully.

the whole process of carving from start to finish is shown, and I discuss as I work along all aspects and details of the finishing process.

In the end you should have a lovely curved handle with the proper offset that when inserted into the head of your axe will reflect your workmanship and the unmistaken marks of your tools and skills.

There is nothing like making your own handle installing it, and then learning the skill of broadaxing, and getting to know the feeling of the curvature and sweep of your creation, I suggest trying it it is not as hard as you might think.

A boughten handle does not contain the little things that mean much when it comes to handles, I am referring to when you grasp the handle you can feel the irregularities, along with many different things.

You can be part of the process as I work along from start to finish.

Making your own handle whether it is for your cherished newly purchased broadaxe axe or a family heirloom, I can help you by showing the steps of carving out one that is strong enough and has the right offset for proper and safe hewing.
