Guys:
Recently, I found a machine shop who can produce this new tool for us:

What it will allow you do to is attach a combination square's ruler to your framing square to make accurate measurements.

Here is a shot of how I have set it up for my framing squares:

I joined two standard framing square together by boring another hole through the square and taping it to receive a small bolt. This made both square true to each other.

This is how I use it:

In the above picture, I'm using the "Slider Combo" to measure the depth of the housing of a centered mortise for a brace. This brace needs to be housed exactly 7 1/2" from the back side, which is the reference side.

The only way to do this is to measure around the corner and then in.

I've invented this tool in order to do this.

I'd like to make this tool available to you.

The cost is $60 each plus shipping.

For $60, you get just the "Slider".

You would attach it to your own framing square and use your own combination square ruler.

It only attaches to the 2" side of the framing square.

To make a run of these I need to sell at least five (5).

So, I'm opening it up to all timber framers here.

Once I have five confirmed orders, I'll instruct the machine shop to do a run, and when they are complete, I'll mail them out to everyone.

A confirmed order will require a deposit of $20, paypal accepted, no credit cards please.
Cash or check.

Please email for any further details to jrsawmill@verizon.net

Does the bracket have a slot to hold the outside of the small rule?
I wonder if any tweaking will be needed for the small rule if there's any slop(from brand to brand)? I guess the question is... are all of those rules close enough to eachother? Is there a way we could adjust this fit? What was the basis for your dimensioning of this? Maybe you could base it on say a Starett rule that you could buy or direct people to buy in case their own rule has too much slop? What material is the bracket - Al? SS? Plated steel?
I'm in. Let me know if you prefer paypal or a check and give me your address for the respective prefered payment.

All I can say is that the dimensions for the slots are 1" for the standard combination ruler. And 2" for a framing square.
If you're unsure if your square will fit the slider is to buy a setup all assembled. That is I'll provide you with the combination square ruler, and a framing square, for the cost of both these tools added to the total.
Both were bought from home depot tool section and are standard tools available.
The framing square in the photo is an aluminum one called a "fat boy" as I remember it. I'll go to home depot and get the part numbers for the ones I got that I used to make sure we have the correct sizes, including prices.
The metal is aluminum.
If you're not happy with one I'll gladly return you money less shipping charges each way.
Paypal preferred, if it's easy for you.... whatever works is ok..

Brad:
I did some research and went to home depot and got a new framing square there.
They don't seem to be selling the "fat boy" aluminum square any more.
What they have now is an Empire brand framing square which is 3/32" thick instead of the 3/16" thickness of the "fat boy" that I've got. So, I when back to the machine shop and we measured everything very accurately to insure that all "sliders" will fit a standard available framing square.
And we set some tolerances for the production of the slider.
This should make it so that it will fit readily available framing squares and combination square rulers.
And I will include an instruction sheet of how to install it.
I feel every confident now that these will work.

Thanks, Tim.
We have adjusted the specifications drawing so that the slider will attached to any thickness framing square.

I placed the order with the machine shop this morning.
Although I never did get 5 sold, I'm moving ahead with this project.
