Good introduction post over at Fine Woodworking on the Cutlist plug in for SketchUp. Great for furniture, cabinets, and most any other design project. It doesn't do so well with timber - but I haven't extensively tested it yet (and we have Clark's Rubies to get our materials list).

Has anyone tried generating the material list (using tf rubies) directly to excel? I formatted the resulting spreadsheet the way I like to see it, but I'd be open to hearing other suggestions. CB.

I've used it directly to Excel.
I think the format is OK - but what I'd rather see is just the raw data so that I can cut and paste into and estimate form. Depending on what material I spec or where it gets ordered depending on if I order even lengths, how I control the round up (did I do joinery or is it for an esimate), etc. etc.

So the list is good - but I don't think it needs to do everything.

Also, exporting the raw data would be useful as someone who wants to use SketchUp for estimating panels / conventional enclosures.
