I have just purchased a Gran Fors carving axe and swiss carving chisels. I want to do relief carving in the timbers used for my own projects. My wife is Irish and loves Celtic designs. Do old Timber frame Structures of the British Isles and Ireland have carvings in their beams? If so, where the carvings to do with religions and everyday living? Or did they have carvings to with their Pagan
Myths and Old Gods? I am very excited by new creative outlets to do with wood carving.

Let's be care and not mix the two up, wouldn't want to worship the wrong bright round object.

I wonder if geometric shapes come into play somewhere along the line?

I was thinking of carving the top as a big (~8" dia.) acorn.
