I am using TF Rubies for Google Sketchup and am trying to build a basic spline joint between a post and a beam. I have purchased the documentation, and studied the examples, but cannot produce the basic joint that I seek. I have uploaded an example of what I want to end up with, but cannot produce the timber that achieves it.

Spline example

It seems that whenever I bring 2 TF joints together without any geometry between them, I don't get the expected result. In the case of this spline, it must cut a channel in the post and the beam. I have tried aligning the joint to cut up and down, and from the side, but neither approach seems to work.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Steve

You must treat the spline like a small timber, so it must be a top-level component. Then you'll need a joint sub-component for each mortise the spilne should cut. In your case, one to cut the slot in the underside of the beam, and one to cut the mortise in the top of the post. CB.
