Yep, same around here. The labor in joinery (with efficiency) can be less than the metal needed without. However the screw work well through rafters. Still haven't found a M&T joint for that.

I like some other type of fasteners. Don't think Im allowed to drop names. I'll just say that the screws are rugged and structural

Interesting that certain engineers insist on metal connectors. The Temple of Nara is all wood and has withstood a number of earthquakes. The temple is 1300 years old. If that does not prove itself I don't know what would?
