If the structure had sentimental value, it's hard to beat a Christmas ornament turned from a meaningful timber.
Depending on the amount of wood and the condition they're in, the timbers could be quite valuable, so if you decide not to do anything with them, you could make some cash and walk away with the satisfaction of knowing you put some quality wood to good use...
I imagine it's hard for most of the folks on this forum, including myself, to think of having a surplus of cedar timbers and not doing something fun with them. A sizable backyard trebuchet will provide unending hours of fun...
But I wouldn't do much of anything to them except keep them dry until you know what you want to do with them.
