Hello, I have a few questions regarding this 3 bay Carport. Im wondering if I can leave out the braces on the front side, to allow more room for entry of vehicles. As well, should the interior posts which support the ridge beam be connected to the plates with tie beams. Ive read that there is no thrust at the eaves if a stiff enough ridge beam is present, so Im hoping the 4 ties present would be enough. The frame is 24 by 30 with 3 foot cantilevered plates supporting the ( 5:12) dutch hip roof, I haven't finished this aspect yet on the pic. Im new to this forum and any suggestions would be great.
cheers
Ian

Make the braces longer, specifically from the post to the ridge. I would have the braces under the cantilevers attach to the top plate not the plate the short rafters are sitting on, a little rearranging, maybe change the angle of the brace to a 1:2 ratio.

You also do not show braces on the gable ends? I am undecided on the tie from plate to ridge post. It would allow for over head storage, so I think I would add them.

In a recent thread Mike has shown some nice ridge beam examples. I see the ridge being dropped a little allowing the rafters to sit on top of the ridge not cut into the face, like how you show the them at the top plate.
