Hi all,

So I've posted on here before and have gotten great advice, so thank you all so much! So, I'm building a small timber frame cabin, with a straw bale wrap around it. The foundation is not timberframed, but rough sawn oak girders over concrete piers, with rough sawn 2x12 hemlock on top. In Tedd Benson's The Timber Frame Home, he recommends putting metal strapping around the corners of a stick framed deck to help add support. I spoke to a very experienced builder about this and he said instead I could just use 20d hot-dipped galvanized nails to secure the joists, and that would be just as good. Those nails would be toe-nailed into the joists, as the joists simply rest on top of the girders. Any thoughts on this people?

Thanks a lot,
Dan
