I have been looking through my wood & T/F books and haven't been able to find the weight of Northern Red Oak, and white pine both green, in lbs./per b/f. I would also like to know the weight of air dried wood. I was told that red oak loses 27% in weight. Thanks, John...

A board foot equals the volume 144 in^3 or (ft^3)/12. So divide weght per ft^3 by 12.

hey all:
Probably more than you want to know but here it is, at least one example of a complex answer.

I have a simple chart that shows the weights of woods as logs in Doyle, Scribner, International log scales and as a cord of wood. It also shows lumber green, kiln dry at 12%, 8%, and air dry at 20%, as a jpeg image that I can send to anyone as I did to John. Let me know if you want it and I'll send it to you also. I'm not saying its 100% accurate as the disclaimer says: "Actual weights will vary depending on many variables including site, log size, health of trees and time of year." But it's a rough outline. Jim

Whatever you do, have fun doing it!
