I'm not sure if what I'm planning for my house would be called a sling brace or if it's just an oversized brace..The larger braces seen in the plan, I was wondering what people might suggest for the construction of these. Would it be best to do some sort of splice that roughly make the shape of the arch and then cut the curve after or would it be better to rip a timber into boards and relaminate it, clamped to a form..or other more practical methods I'm not aware of?
Your illustration is not a sling brace. Use solid timbers sawn or naturally shaped. Have an engineer experienced with timber framing review your plans.
