Hi Folks,
I was just staring at the 3D model of the Schuylerville project and had a couple of questions.
The three entrances that are on three sides of the building are not tied into the body of the building. There is some kind of gap so that they are not touching. Why? Wouldn't it be a good idea to tie them in with joinery?
There seem to be a number of bents in which horizontal posts don't seem to meet the vertical beams. Like they both meet grade instead. But wouldn't it be better if the beams and posts met each other instead? Seems like it would be simple to do - just move a bit of dirt. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
SIPS are not shown, and would fill the gaps you see between the porches and the main frame. Often in cold climates you DON'T want timbers penetrating the insulating envelope.
If you see gaps below the posts (by the way, posts are vertical and beams are horizontal, rather than vice-versa) it's either because they rest on concrete foundation or there is a flooring layer not shown. Joinery on the post feet, such as stub tenons, is also not shown.

Thanks, Will, I appreciate the reply. On my good days I know that posts are vertical and beams horizontal. See you this coming week,
Tom
