We are in the process of re-assembling a German Palatine timber frame from the 1740's. We had to repair some posts with new wood and replace some other pieces with new wood as well. What is the best way to age the new wood so it blends in with the old? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Wendy:
Here is a comment on wood aging that I seen done on a movie set at Upper Canada Village some years ago, they used a Lye solution applied with a brush on pine and it really did look quite old, you might experiment with it alittle because I dont know how it will act on other types of wood. Another trick they used was to spray on a weak solution of grey latex paint mixed with water, again alittle experimenting might help. these professional set dressers are pretty good at falsifying the age of wood.
