I am building a four bent, 16x24' shop with a 6:12 roof pitch. Rafter feet will be housed into the tie beam. A modified english tying joint will connect tie beam, post and plate. Local codes require roof loads of 50 psf. My question pertains to the rafter peak. Will a tongue and fork joint (with collar ties connecting principal rafters) be sufficient? or is a ridge pole a better choice? What is the minimum roof pitch for a tongue and fork joint at the rafter peak?
Much obliged, Mark
