Hi,

Long story, short, I started a barn building business last year, things are starting to look up thank you very much. wink

The question is this, I have a lead who wants a barn to store 3 antique cars but he only wants one door.

Normally I would do a 24x36 barn (hemlock or Pine) with 3 doors.

I am thinking that a clear span of 24 feet would work but have no idea if a big beam (12 to 16 inches) will carry the load of a finished loft (kitchen, bath, office).

I think I can make a king post work in the loft area but would prefer an alternative.

Any suggestions?

With the information given it would be difficult for someone to answer this question. More information about the loft and roof above are needed. May a recommend that you consult a local engineer? That is the best way with such things.
