I am currently putting togther a curriculum on timber frame barn consruction and barn raising for the State Historical Society in Iowa. Any arifacts suggestions, location of diary accounts, or notes on timber frame construction would be helpful. I have ordered two videos for the trunk. I am currently trying to find a list of materials (wood and hardware) that would have been used in a timber frame barn at the turn of the century (1900's). Earlier would be fine, too. Basically a materials list and cost of the materials at the time on construction. I want the students to compute the cost of the original construction and then figure out what the cost would be today. I realize that it depends on the wood that was used and what type of foundation was set before the barn was constructed. I am also looking for good drawings or photographs of a timber framers tools. Any help that you could give would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you
