hi
One of our regional zoos is looking for a 50 x 100 timberframe barn.
The zoo is open to new construction or moving an old barn.
However, this size is too big for our area. our biggest barns are generally 40 x 60.
So...two questions
1, do any of you folks have a 50' wide barn in your area?
2.If so, how is it framed?

In looking through my books it seems that the nave and aisle plan will work for a 50 foot bent(most barns in our area have this design). The problem with using this design is that is requires very tall posts along the nave...at least 30' in this case.

Another point is that the zookeeper wants to raise the frame with elephants. I thought he was joking at first but as it ends up, he is quite serious. I don't know if any of you folks have this kind of experience but i'm wondering if it will effect frame design, etc.
take care,
