I will be building a pool house and was going to go the stick building route but have always admired and yearned for a timber framed building. Size is to be 20 x 24, one story with a loft above. Where can I go for designs??

couple of ideas about the poolhouse project.
Is it free standing or going to be attached to an existing structure ?
Because of the humidity in a pool house the choice of wood species and overengineered water proofing and power ventilation are called for.
Being in NH, the near epicenter of timber framing, you have the choice of multiple firms to do the building even with your participation. Check the resource guide or the link to the TFBC.
Work safe, have fun.

Emmett...

I'd be interested to know more about "choice of multiple firms to do the building even with your participation". This approach my be an option for me.

I have taken 3 of the Heartwood courses and plan to do frames for my retirement property (small tractor barn, large garage, house...). Minimally, I'd need some engineering help for the larger structures and raising. Potentially I may need more help than this.

Emmett,
The poolhouse will be freestanding, on a 1/2 cement foundation 1/2 wood . The 'poolhouse'
will not actually contain the pool but will be located 8' from. Any additional thoughts?

thanks
Saint

Saint and Joel:
If you go to the TFG (Timber Framer Guild) home page and click on the light bulb shaped icon in the upper right hand corner of the page, which is labeled "resource guide" you will be taken to a start page. Follow the link, by clicking on it until you get to the search page.
On the search page are three boxes for you to fill in. Put design in the first box, your state in the second box and pick Design in the third box and the search will result in 127 firms listed with the TFG that do design work. Sort threw the list and try and find someone who is local to your area. These local firms know all the code rules for your area.
Also, do the same search by change the first and last box to engineering, and you'll again get a list of firms that do engineering, some 41 listed with the guild.
In addition, if either of you would like a quote from me, I've started a timber frame design service and I would be happy to quote either of you for designing your frames.

Saint: What then does the poolhouse contain ?
Jim's guidance is great.
Joel: See also Jim's post. Good specific info.
