Hey there people!

just a quick question; any help would be appreciated.

if a model portal frame is made to one-quarter the scale, what fraction of the prototype load will just cause failure in the model. Additionally, what would be the expected deflection from model to the prototype? (assuming that both the model and prototype have a common critical stress, and obey hookes laws).

cheers again!

This is out of my area of expertise, so this is just an opinion, but what about grain density? Denser grained wood tends to be stronger, and grain density won't scale with the rest of the model. At least the results would be skewed to the conservative side: your model will be less dense, and therefore weaker than the real thing. Interesting topic. CB.
