Good Morning everyone! I'm trying to decide the best way to lay out my sill timbers. I've seen them placed on edge as well as on their side. I would like to get everyone's opinion on how they lay the sill timbers.
My sills are 8x10 with 2 ties across the center. The ties are 8x12. The first tie is 16' from the end. The second is 12' from the previous(or 16' from the opposite end). The dimensions of the sill is 32x44 sitting on a 10" thick wall.
Just collecting opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Dan

If the sills are supported fully, on a concrete wall, then orient them to make the joinery work the best. I'd be looking at the connection with your tie beams and any floor joists, draw these connections out in both situations and pick the best one. If the tie beams are "on edge" then they may work better with a 10" timber face to join into?
