I am building a new hybrid house. One section of the house will have a king-post and purlin roof system. The other part will have four 27ft valleys meeting at the main ridge. There will also be two dormer ridge beams perpendicular, heading front and back. I can get four 6x16x28ft doug fir valleys but not a 6x10x31ft spruce ridge. I am thinking of joining the 4 valleys together first and then, somehow, join the 4 ridge beams. I'll be using 6x8 jack rafters 4ft on center. Is it quicker and easier to use a king-pendant type post in the center or can I just come up with a joint to hold them in the crouch until the jacks do their thing holding up the ridges?
