hey all,
wondering if anyone has cut a crown post roof system before, and whether there may be things to watch out for. We are cutting a 22x32 log shell and will be putting a crown post roof on top. There will be three principal rafter pairs, and the area of concern to me is the center pair, which have no post under the tie beam(22ft)... We are looking at using 10x12 or so for the tie beam, but looking at the system, I'm wondering if more could be needed, as the crown post system apparently needs good support from below... also there will be a scarf in the collar purlin near the center tie beam...

Another thought we've had in the design process is whether to connect the collars to the collar purlin with some lags or not, and how importand this may be.

thanks for any thoughts,
