Hello.
I have a few questions and would appreciate any feedback. I'm considering a career change to the log building and/or timber framing industry. I'm presently working in Northern BC as a tree faller for the oil business, but I live in Nelson, BC. I've been researching various schools that offer timber framing courses as well as some schools offering both timber framing and log building, but I am a little confused about whether or not these crafts are involved with the BC trades, or Canada trades programs. Does one need to become an apprentice and go to school every year for four years, or is it not set up the same way as carpentry, for example. Also, do three month courses put you in a good position to obtain employment or are they more for those looking to build their own homes, cottages, etc.. I have been considering both the Island School of Building on Gabriola Island, and the Course offered by the College of the Rockies in Kimberley. Thanks in advance for any info.
