The Weeksville Heritage Center is a historic house museum in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Weeksville hosts a youth program in the spring and fall called "Hands On". Hands On is designed to introduce local high school students to historic preservation and preservation arts. Past workshop topics have included woodworking, stained glass, glassblowing, and lighting restoration. Workshops run for eight Saturdays, from 10 am to 2 pm, and up to 15 students participate.

We would like to add a section on timberframing this fall. Ideally, we would like our students to experience creating their own project. We would like to build a picnic table using timberframing techniques with the students on site, and are looking for an instructor. We are envisioning the project lasting for two workshops, over two consecutive Saturdays.

Instructors must be able to come to Brooklyn for two consecutive Saturdays, from 10 am to 2 pm. We cannot provide accommodation. All instructors receive a stipend, and we will cover the cost of materials. The program is running from September 23rd to November 18th. Workshop dates are flexible within these times, but instructors should be available during these dates. Instructors should be comfortable working with high school students.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email Kaitlyn Greenidge, Historic Preservation Coordinator, kaitlyn@weeksvillesociety.org. If possible, please include a workshop plan and estimate of materials cost.
