I'm a student at the University of Maine, Orono. I'm doing my senior research project on the timberframe industry, specifically timber manufactures. I'm researching the feasibility of buying an existing mill, with the idea of basing it's operations around meeting the needs of the timberframe industry. I'm looking for information on existing timber manufactures, and overall market trends. If you have any information you think could be helpful please send it my way. If you know of any other good sources for this type of information, that also would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
ns

I'd start by contacting local mills in your area. I'm sure that all of them have been asked to cut timbers for frames. Because of the cost of transportation, most frames are cut locally and as a consequence few mills cut frames exclusively. The exceptions are the cases of large timberframers with a captive mill. To find this later category, consider contacting a large timberframing company.

Please give the Timber Frame Business Council a call (603 643 5033 / www.timberframe.org)They are the trade association formed by but independent of the Guild, in place specifically to answer such questions.
