My partners and I are about to erect a large timberframe with large timbers. Our main concern is how to hold up the 8x10x16' girts between the bents, all six of them, while we raise another bent. Any reply will be appreaciated.
Ive looked around the "Ask the Experts" site and have found nothing on raising frames. So I conclude it must be real easy or I missed somthing. Cheers Mark

A method used with some success is to install and peg (or otherwise secure) the timber in the first bent. Then support the outboard end at the appropriate elevation with a prop of some sort. Typically, the prop is made of dimensional lumber. Be sure that the prop is sufficiently strong for the size timber being supported and that it is braced so it can't fall over sideways.
