Can Poplar and Red Oak be used together in a
frame? In case I don't have enough Red Oaks, I was thinking about using Poplar for the sills and first floor joists, and Red Oak for everything else. Or is it better to use all one species? I'm hoping the 50+ acres of woods on my farm will supply me with all that I need.

I don't think you'd want to use poplar for sills. I think something more rot resistant such as white oak...

Then again, my advice is probably worth as much as you paid for it ;-)
