Help. Need reseach data for possible project. Looking for any sort of literature on bell tower design. I'm pretty confident in my joinery decisions, but something about having a couple of hundred lbs. of swinging bronze 50 ft. in the air tells me this is going to require a few second opinions. After all, I might know a couple of folks standing around underneath. Thanks

The biggest concern in bell tower design is the lateral load imposed on the structure by the swinging bells. A horizontal load equal to three times the bell weight is transmitted to the structure at the points of attachment of the bells. Not a small concern, but it has obviously been solved in numerous church steeples.
