I have some acreage w/ lots of aromatic cedar.
Is it suitable for timberframing? I was in Fredericksburg, Tx. & noticed a large building
that utilized it, but would like a more definitive answer.
Thanks
Mike

I was unable to find a separate listing of stength values in the National Design Specifications for aromatic cedar. Having said that, you would probably be safe in designing using the values for Northern White cedar. The one caution is that aromatic cedar tends to have a brittle type failure when dry. The timber is not forgiving of overload. It will shatter instead of bend and sag. If there is any question in your calculations, round UP to the next largest timber size, not down.

There are any number of equipment and livestock sheds here in the Valley of Virginia that have been framed with aromatic cedar obtained when clearing hedgerows.
