I am in the early stages of "imagining" a TF home. I imagine it as as a old New England colonial, or more specificaly the Federal period. After researching some local structures I found a plan that I liked. My problem is that I'm not so sure one could actualy "build it like they used to". In the basic 8 room layout there is a fireplace in each room. Back to back and as near as I can tell right over each other on the first and second floors. They seem to all join into two massive chimneys with no flues. What is a good source for examining modern(to code) interpretations of traditional designs? My experience with my current home was a disaster. The architect drew a situation that had no bearing on realistic masonary practices or modern chimney code requirements. Though it seems like a layout detail, it has everything to do with the fundamental strucure of the dwelling .
