I've been noticing the ads for this new chain mortiser by Sauer that opperates much like the Mafel, but at about 1/6th the price. Has anyone out there used it or seen it in action? Does it cut as effeciently as the mafel? Is the old saying true that you get what you pay for?

Where was this advertised? I tried to find it on the net without any luck. I, too, would be curious to hear about this. Thanks

Thank you very much. They look pretty good. (If they are 1/6 the cost that would be about $600.) A friend from Massachusetts who went to England to work on a frame said that he'd used a Hitachi--I think--moriser. He said that he liked it very much and it was less expenzive, but he did not believe that the machine was available here. Does anyone know about that? Again, thanks.

I too am interested in the Sauer Chain Mortiser professional version (KST-L). Has anyone used this tool?

Timbertools.com sells them for about $2,400. I talked to the sales guy today and it appears to be a good product. Sauer is a German company that has been in businees for 120 years. It works similar to the Mafell mortiser in that it cuts across the grain so no chiselling is need on the mortise ends. I was told the only major difference between the Sauer and the Mafell is the rotation of the chain. Replacement chains cost about $330. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
