Purchasing a chain mortiser. Is the Sauer KST-L 150 chain mortiser used at the Timberframe Workshops at Heartwood in Massachusetts? I'm leaning towards this particular tool and am interested in any feedback in general.

The only chain mortiser I've seen used up at Heartwood was a Mafel that belonged to the instructor.

I've never seen the Sauer, is there a website?

Yes, I found information on the Sauer chain mortiser on the Timbertools.com website. It lists the history, features and specifications there.

Sounds like a decent tool but they are in the business of selling it wink The 220v input is a bit limiting unless you buy a converter.

Have you got a price from them?

I found a two year old thread here that quotes a $2400 price but no reviews from users.

I called Timber Tools direct and they quoted a price of $1500. Actually I am leaning toward the Mafell because of its versatility and its light weight. Requested a catalog for the price list...do you have an idea what the cost of the LS 103 would be?

I believe they were running in the neighborhood of $3500 w/ the FG 150 stationary support and a 1.5" chain. But that's a good two years old and it may be a sale price I'm remembering.
